This One Shift Changes Everything

Nov 19, 2025

I don’t have the luxury of being overwhelmed.

As a divorced mom caring for my adult son with special needs while running a business and building my beautiful life, I don’t get to spiral, stall, or stay stuck for long. Life keeps moving, and so must I.

That reality taught me something most people don’t realize:
If you don’t reclaim your time and energy, your dreams don’t stand a chance.

This simple phrase helps me redirect my focus — away from distractions or old stories, and toward the things that really matter.

Whenever I catch myself thinking about something that doesn’t serve me, I stop and say,
“Wait a minute. This is a waste of my valuable imagination.”

Because imagination is energy, and how we spend it determines what we create.

My Wake-Up Call (a.k.a. The Soap Opera Lesson)

As a young woman in college, I was double-majoring in opera and journalism. And at the time, hopelessly addicted to soap operas. I actually scheduled my classes around Days of Our Lives and Another World.

Until one day, I realized I was watching other people live their dreams while I was postponing my own.

So I quit cold turkey.

Instead of sitting in the student union watching other performers on TV, I reserved a practice room in the music building and spent those two hours rehearsing — building my craft, my dream, my future.

That simple shift — redirecting time and energy from distraction to creation — became a lifelong habit.

Perfection Is a Trap

The truth is, most of us don’t struggle with time management.
We struggle with perfection deflection.

We delay taking action on our dream until it’s “the right time.”
We hide behind preparation because we don’t want to be seen starting small.

But here’s what I know for sure:
There is no “right time.”
“Someday” does not exist on the calendar.

If you want more freedom, fulfillment, and peace — schedule time for them.
Put your dreams on your calendar the same way you do meetings, deadlines, and errands.
Because if it’s not scheduled, it doesn’t exist.

You don’t have to do everything at once — but you do have to begin.

Stop spending your rich imagination capital on what drains you.
Reclaim your time. Reignite your energy. Refocus your attention on what matters most.

And remember:

Think Big and Dream Even BIGGER!!!
